    Volunteer for a Sunday

Spend one morning at 5th & Towne on Skid Row, the way our volunteers do every Sunday. Unload the bus, hand out water, pack Humanity Packs, serve plates and talk with the people in line. It runs in your browser, on a computer or a phone.

Help out for one Sunday at 5th & Towne

Loads about 6 MB when you press play.

Move with W, A, S, D or the joystick. E or the orange button helps, talks and picks things up.

Your progress is saved only in your own browser. At the end of the day you get a summary with links to volunteer on a real Sunday or to donate.

    How a Sunday plays

    1

    Walk to a stop

Under the title the game names the next stop you have not helped at yet. Tap it and the camera walks you there, or walk on your own.

    2

    Help out

At each stop one task waits: hand over water, pack a Humanity Pack, find a pair of socks in the right size. Press E or tap the orange button.

    3

    Meet your neighbours

Say hello to the people on the block and hear what their morning looks like. Talking is never scored against anyone.

The task card for stop one, Unload the bus: sort each box to the food, clothing or hygiene table

    A goal for the day

A plate at the top left tracks the day. Doing every task gets you close to 100 %, and conversations and finds add a little. These are targets for the game, not figures from a real Sunday.

    • 36 hot meals
    • 30 bottles of water
    • 28 socks and clothes
    • 24 hygiene kits and packs
    • 6 wound care cases

    The eight tasks

The stops follow a real Sunday from 10:00 to 12:30, and each one has a task. Times after 10 AM are approximate.

Neighbours to meet, things to find

Ten people on the block have something to say, and each answers differently when you come back. Every one of them is fictional, and none is modelled on a real person. They are neighbours, never targets or a source of points.

    • Andrevolunteer, unloads the bus
    • Rosain line since 8:30
    • MarcusArmy veteran, asks about benefits
    • Ms. Gloriawaits for a Humanity Pack

Ten things we bring are hidden along the street

A light beam marks each one: clean socks, a Humanity Pack, a case of water, a blanket, a hygiene kit, a hot meal, dog food, a first aid kit, a volunteer shirt, a flyer for next Sunday. Every find opens a card with a photo from a real Sunday.

    Questions about the game

Is the game free, and do I need an account?

It is free and there is no account or sign-up. Your progress is saved only in your own browser, so nothing about you reaches DO GOOD.

Which devices does it run on?

A current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox on a computer, tablet or phone. The street loads about 6 MB the first time, so Wi-Fi helps on a phone, and older phones may run it slowly.

Are the people in the game real?

No. Every figure in the game is fictional and none is modelled on a real person. They stand for the kinds of conversations that happen on a Sunday, and they are neighbours to meet, never targets or a source of points.

Are the goals for the day real numbers?

No. The goals are targets that give a game day a shape. Real Sundays are not scored, and nothing in the game reports what DO GOOD actually hands out.

How close is it to a real Sunday?

It shows the steps: the bus, the line, the tables, the conversations. It cannot show the weight of a morning on Skid Row. The best way to understand it is to come on a Sunday, and the game ends with links to do that.

What is the DO GOOD Cinema?

A small pop-up cinema at the end of the block in the 3D street. Walk up to the screen, press F or tap Watch, and the films play one after another. The same films are on this page, and more will be added over time.
